The vertically mounted trunk of the fossil tree Callixylon in the “Conquest of Land” exhibition of the Paleobiology Hall at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. The fossil is 348 million years old (Late Devonian age) from the New Albany Shale in Kentucky.
